Weekend Box Office: “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker” Rises, “Cats” Lacks Claws
This weekend, as expected, the final installation of the Star Wars saga, Episode IX – Rise of Skywalker, obliterated all competition at the box office this weekend. The film made a staggering $175.5 million in ticket sales. The second-highest grossing film over the weekend was last week’s top spotholder, Jumanji sequel The Next Level. It made $26.1 million. In the third spot was Disney’s Frozen II with $12.3 million in sales. The film adaptation of the Broadway musical Cats opened in a distant fourth place, missing expectations despite the star-studded cast, including Taylor Swift. The musical only brought in $6.5 million. The mystery Knives Out made it to fifth place with $6.1 million in ticket sales.
