Prince was a driving force in the 80s and the pen behind a lot of artists’ biggest hits. Kenny Rogers was one of them, with his 1986 song, “You’re My Love?” “When he sent the song to me if I remember right, it was him playing all of the instruments on it, and he had his background vocals on it. Unfortunately, on the finished record, somehow, my producer didn’t end up using the music or vocals (the song was re-cut). It was such an incredible thing that Prince took the time to do that for me…” said Rogers. According to Rolling Stone, the background vocals of the song actually belonged to El Debarge, and the song was originally written five years before its release. The song didn’t immediately garner any type of success until it was re-recorded in 1987 with Rogers and Ronnie Milsap for the b-side of their song, “Make No Mistake, She’s Mine.” What is your favorite song written by Prince? Who was more of a force in music back in the 80s? Prince or Michael Jackson?
