In the opening performance of the 2019 CMA Awards, The Highwomen kicked off the show with a spirited version of Tammy Wynette’s “Good Girls Gonna Go Bad,” followed by a tribute to the women of country music that took place across a couple of stages. The all-female medley featured a who’s who of female stars, including Tanya Tucker, Gretchen Wilson, Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Crystal Gayle, Sarah Evans, Martina McBride and Terri Clark.

Dan + Shay then took the stage to perform their heartfelt ballad, “Speechless.” Pop diva Pink and country superstar Chris Stapleton then performed the duet “Love Me Anyway,” which brought the crowd to their feet. Carrie Underwood also debuted a jazzy version of her new song “Drinking Alone” at the show, and Luke Combs brought down the house with his “Beer Never Broke My Heart.”

Later, Dolly Parton teamed up with Christian artist Zach Williams for a faith-filled medley before Keith Urban sang his latest single, “We Were,” and Kacey Musgraves joined icon Willie Nelson in a heartfelt version of “The Rainbow Connection.” Maren Morris, Thomas Rhett, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, and Reba McEntire also performed.
