The record-setting fanfare has been the lead story about ‘Old Town Road’ for weeks, but as it turns out Billy Ray Cyrus originally penned a lyric that was too controversial for the song.

In Cyrus’ verse, he sings about diamond rings and Fendi sports bras, but that wasn’t the original lyric.  In fact, Billy had no idea what a Fendi sports bra was.  His original lyric had a different word to rhyme with “guitar” and “car.  He wrote the original verse in 10 minutes and the line was:

“Baby’s got a habit, diamond rings and marijuana.”

Cyrus thought it was hilarious, but someone higher up the food chain decided against the lyric, specifically the word marijuana.  And the rest, as they say, is history.
